Good evening out there… Today it’s våffeldagen or Marie Bebådelsedag here in Sweden, I haven’t eaten any våfflor today BUT I quit from crafthaus this evening…

“The annual fee of $20 (or $35 for 2 years) became necessary because of the tremendous popularity of the website, expressed through the growth in member numbers, and the sheer volume of member added content such as photos, videos, music, and so on. For the past months already, the editor of the site had to purchase additional bandwidth to keep the website from "freezing" and to allow continued growth for the benefit of everyone. These fees were paid for by the editor out-of-pocket, but obviously, that cannot go on indefinitely, and the decision was made to have crafthaus be a fully member-supported website - starting now ! “

I’m glad that it is a popular site, but I thought from the beginning (and then I have read it very badly, sorry!) that it was as some kind of “facebook” a´la craft… But I don’t want to pay to be in; I stick to my blog for free and hope to join Klimt02 some day instead of this.
I absolutely understand that people want to be paid or take some money for their work, but I also think that some kind of limit can be, so “we” can do it for free… as far as I know the blog system are still free and then I can lay all my energy at the blog.

I thought that as Crafthaus is still using the free "Ad supported" version of Ning, that the more traffic the happier they would be?

Its a little bite confused… IF it’s free system, why charge people/members??? Of course I understand that people need money to run their life and it’s not so many who doing things for free… If we all look into the global finance crises, we know that every time is about money in the end… BUT I think that internet and the cyber space is a special place, a place who can be “free”, at least we can use it to show our ideas, come together and be happy for no money at all, if we want.
I think and hope that if someone started and trough a stone into the water, ring will shows up… I thought this was a project like that, throwing a stone and get together in a space of good handicraft people.
May be I’m a little bite naive?! But I will believe in goodness and also taking care and get together with others without charge them for money, not in this way, any way…

But I’m not against the site, no way, I like the idea and I hope they will have a lot of members who pay for their space there. But I think we live in a free world (or I do in Sweden, so far…) and my choose is to leave it behind, find new free ways out in the cyber space galaxy…
