Earth Hour is an international event organised by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature/World Wildlife Fund), and held on the last Saturday of March each year, which asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Earth hour was conceived by WWF Australia and the Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated by turning off all non-essential lights. Following Sydney's lead, many other cities around the world adopted the event in 2008.

Earth Hour (jordtimmen) är en internationell kampanj som ber hushåll och företag att under en timme släcka sitt lyse och stänga av sina icke-nödvändiga elektriska apparater för att spara energi och minska växthusgaser.
Kampanjen sker årligen under den sista lördagen i mars.
Första gången Earth Hour hölls var i Sydney i Australien på den 31 mars 2007 mellan klockan 19.30 och 20.30.
Detta skedde på initiativ från Världsnaturfonden, en lokal australisk miljölobbygruppoch tidningen The Sydney Morning Herald.
Resultatet blev att 2,2 miljoner sydneybor och 2 000 företag minskade Sydneys elförbrukning med 10,2 procent.
År 2008 skedde Earth Hour den 29 mars mellan klockan 20.00 och 21.00 . Örebro kommun deltog detta år och även kung Carl Gustaf av Sverige släckte ned Stockholms slott.
