Tuesday December 8...

Christmas dinner or lunch with Kulturlabbet at the Burgårdens gymnasium a school who train pupils to become chefs… I think this will be my only Christmas table sitting at restaurant this year… I’m not so found of this traditional Christmas food, it’s absolutely enough to have it one week at home around Christmas time, I think.
It was okay and it was nice to be invited to the Christmas lunch too.

I found these two sculptures at Tuesday after the Christmas dinner.

I don’t know who has made them, but I believe that I have heard the jewellery artist Tobias Andersson said that his father has the one at the top, may be it was some other sculpture in the same area or it was this one, but unlucky I don’t know the name anyway…

The chair is just placed there for a short time I believe, but I have to say that it was a great idea to sit there and get a shinny glory above your head; I hope I will have the time to try it.

Bart Hess born in 1984 in Geldrop the Netherlands. Bart is exploring several fields that straddle material, animation and photography, these fall within the commercial and art world. Bart works in primitive and infinite ways. He works with his instinct and starts by using a material on the body, exploring volumes and ways of re-shaping the human silhouette. In fast speed, expelling all his creative energy. He is creating imagery that capture future human shapes and new body form’s. Bart is discovering a low-tech prosthetic way for human enhancement.


HUNT FOR HIGH-TECH
With a Hunt for Hightech Bart Hess made a collection of fake fur that touches on elements of fetishism, human instinct and new animal archetypes. With that collection he did not try to mimic real animal kingdoms but create a fantasy world of his own. The way this started was through the process of imagining fantasy animals; animals that could be genetically manipulated, part robot, part organic, how they would move in their environment and what they felt like to touch.


LUCYANDBART
Lucyandbart is a collaboration between artists Lucy McRae and Bart Hess. In it they imagine human bodies and faces physically altered with a shocking but artistic realism. Globules of foam, asymmetric spines… fascinating and repugnant simultaneously, the pictures become even more disturbing because they don’t hint at the emotional state of the subject. Each transformed human looks blankly back at you, neither horrified or surprised or excited about their change of form, but merely present and allowing it to be shown to you. It’s that sort of lucid acceptance, clearly not hiding the kind of imperfections and oddities that society mostly trains us to be ashamed of, that make staring at these “mutants” even more unnerving.

Body ornament and body image mix, I know that I have blog some of this before… I get fascinated about the way of using the body to create/show art pieces, very very interesting and also in my point of view scary, in these days when you can find kittens and snakes at Youtube with two heads… Everything is more or less already there, or?!

Today I have to go with the flow and do all the stuff that I need to do before I leaving Gothenburg for Christmas time up in the North of Sweden.

My inner is in chaos, it is so many things that I want to do and so many things that I have to do… I’m not sure in which end I will start today… A indoor day with myself.

This is also a part of life, to get stocked, to catch up and to finish, getting frustrated and see how far I can get …

Beate Persdotter Löken...

I meet Beate at the Christmas market at Haga Teater, she have done some nice Christmas things/gifts, always interesting to meet new people who use different material to create nice things.
Beate Persdotter Löken is light, puppet and attribute maker, an interesting combination and for me a whole new world.

I also meet a girl who is costume assistant and designer, Ulrika Karro, unlucky I didn’t take any photo and I can’t find her work at internet…
Ulrika create/designed child clothes and really amazing postcard of bugaboo seeds or in Swedish; spökfrön.

Christmas market...

Yesterday, Christmas market in the old parts of Gothenburg, Haga.
It was not so Christmas like as it suppose to be, crowed but without any Christmas feeling of snow and cosy atmosphere…Some nice hours with my friend Susanne anyway…

now the KORU3 has ending and arrived back...

The exhibition had 2500 visitors.

I admire Felieke van der Leest a lot and I have to say that she is so goooooooood!
I like the imagination and the technique and the colour and the ANIMAL.

I really, really want to have some of her pieces some day; I will wear it and be proud and happy to do it… But just now it’s only a dream.

Isn’t it wonderful how internet and cyber space connecting people?!

Open lecture by Damian Skinner, New Zealand:

"The Value of Distance: New Zealand Jewellery and
the Problems of being a New Zealand Jeweller"

HDK, Stora hörsalen, Tuesday, December 8 at 16.00-17.00

The art historian, critic and curator Damian Skinner has in a series of books and articles investigated how cultural identity is expressed in art and craft in his native New Zealand.
In this lecture he reflects on the relationship between centre and periphery and analyses how New Zealand jewellers over the past decades have positioned themselves with regard to international currents in their field.

Damian Skinner says about the theme:”It isn’t easy being a New Zealand jeweller, living on an island at the bottom of the world and believing that the jewellery made overseas is always better than the jewellery made at home. The New Zealand jeweller is trapped between their desire to make jewellery which is original and good quality on its own terms, and their understanding that terms like ‘original’ and ‘good quality’ are always defined by somebody else living overseas.”
Damian Skinner holds a Ph D from Victoria University and has written most of what has been published on New Zealand jewellery in recent years, including the monographs Given: Jewellery by Warwick Freeman (2004) and Between Tides: Jewellery by Alan Preston (2008), and catalogue essays on Lisa Walker, Peter McKay and Jason Hall. He is currently writing a history of contemporary jewellery in Australia and New Zealand.

The lecture is open to the public. Please note that the number of seats is limited, and that the main entrance closes at 16.00.

The lecture is presented in cooperation with Iaspis, International Artists’ Studio Program in Sweden.

Thursday... a white landscape...

Thursday, my way to work at Nääs Fabriker out at the countryside of Gothenburg, an early morning, a beautiful white morning with a bright pink sky.
I was a silversmith teacher this day and it was a good working day with a lot of nice meetings and a lot of creativity.

To get there I have to take the tram, then the train and finally the bus and then a short work throw an old factory area… It’s an amazing surroundings and I like to be out there.
