Paper is many things: a carrier of text, illustration, history and emotion.
Jeremy May has captured the beauty of paper via a unique laminating process. Littlefly jewellery is made by laminating hundreds sheets of paper together, then carefully finishing to a high gloss. The paper is selected and carefully removed from a book, and the jewellery re-inserted in the excavated space.
Each piece is impossible to replicate, and is unique to the wearer. The beauty of the jewels extends within the piece: text and images pass all the way though the object, only exposed at the surfaces – giving a tantalising glimpse of the book within.

During the Second World War, American troops in New Zealand were issued a concise guide to familiarize themselves with the country in which they were stationed. Published by the War and Navy Departments in 1943, Pocket Guide to New Zealand was a descriptive guide to the history, culture, peoples and language of New Zealand.

Reassuring readers that New Zealanders were a pioneering society who had been "seeing our movies, listening to our radio, and reading our magazines", the Pocket Guide to New Zealand concluded that its readers would meet "a people with some of the British reserve, with many British methods and institutions, but with American outspokenness and directness – plus a working knowledge of American slang."

Five decades later, the Pocket Guide to New Zealand Jewelry continues this tradition of cultural exchange, introducing a new generation of Americans to contemporary jewelry made, as the original guide put it, "deep in the heart of the south seas." The Pocket Guide to New Zealand Jewelry is an indispensable introduction to a country that continues to transform cultural influences from England, Europe and America into jewelry that American audiences will find both familiar and strange.

The exhibition travels to The Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston in March 2010.

The wearer makes the jewellery, a nice thought…
I was and listen to Kim Buck at his speech at HDK last Friday, it was very refreshing and also very interesting to see how he has develop his jewellery ideas and thoughts, I like his “new” statement of being politic in his own way in his jewellery. I like his, in one way very strict way of working but also the idea of those things can be broken or transformed after or under use of it. To play with those ideas is for me very interesting and I felt that I get a lot of new thought listen to Kim’s good and interesting speech about his work and why he work as he do.

I have to say thank you to both Kim and HDK, HDK is very generous to invite people to open speech for free and I went as often I have time for it, I think it’s a very very nice goodwill from HDK to arrange it like this. It’s nice to hear artists talk about their work and it’s also nice to meet colleges.

Hanna Hedmans smycken är stora expressiva och fulla av detaljer. Berättelser om svunna epoker förgrenas med vardagsliv och natur. De är underliga, svåra att definiera och på samma gång oemotståndliga. Verkligheten förenas med drömmar.
Att smycken är vackra håller de flesta med om. Skönhet och estetik är för många det mest åtråvärda. Att smycken har terapeutiska värden och läker sår talar vi inte lika mycket om. Skönhet kan anses ytlig men skönhet kan också lindra, förhöja och skapa mervärde. Genom skönhet flyr vi verkligheten och samtidigt med full närvaro kastar vi oss in i andliga sfärer, fantasier och starka känslor. I Hanna Hedmans arbeten är skönheten ställd i kontrast till det otrevliga och allvarliga. De vassa och sirligt utformade smyckena är mångfasetterade och har mycket att berätta. Likt smyckenas uppbyggnad av lager på lager hör vi historierna upprepas gång på gång.

”Jag använder mig främst av skönhet för att få betraktarens uppmärksamhet, men egentligen vill jag förmedla mer än bara så. Mänsklig sårbarhet och våra underliggande försvarsmekanismer är teman som återkommer i mitt konstnärskap.” – säger Hanna Hedman

Titeln Escape the day är flertydig. Utställningen är mörk, i ett mörkt gallerirum och handlar om verklighetsflykt. Hanna Hedman hämtar inspiration från historiska händelser avlägsna våra rutiner samtidigt som hon framträder som dagens stora smyckeunder. Inte konstigt heller att hon knappt ser dagen då hon på rekord kort tid har erövrat världen med sina smycken, vilket naturligt kräver maniskt arbete där dagarna löper in i natten.

I send this silver woman/cross to my mother as a gift.

It’s sand casting silver and melted silver beads on linen tread. I made this piece when I was a student at HDK, long time ago… and I finish it some weeks ago when I was teaching at Nääs Fabriker. This silver piece among many other undone pieces has been hidden in boxes for years, nice to pick them up and see if it’s possible to bring new life into them… I think I handle it very well and I’m satisfied with the end result.

Hi dear visitors.

I don’t trust my Internet company, my internet has been broken or out of order for two weeks now and when I spoke to the company, they told me that my modem was to old and that they will send me anew one, my idea of what’s wrong with my internet is that some link into my apartment are broken…

As you all know, these days we are all more or less depending on internet and it’s really hard to be out the internet when you are used to use it daily.

Even if the company will not charge me fro the time I don’t have the possibility to use my internet, it’s a lot of things they can’t pay me for… as no contact with friends, paying my bills at internet, check up dates or have contact with different works and galleries and so on…

An very irritated time right now, today I just give it a try and NOW its in order for just now any way, I can’t trust the internet system yet, so IF I don’t do any post at the blog, it’s because of this irritated and shitty company thing.

BUT, now when I can use the internet I can tell what I have been doing and what’s coming up… Yesterday I was to HDK and listen to a speech of Kim Buck (I will add some photos of his work later on…) I meet some colleges, Tore Svensson, Karin Seufert, Lena Olson, Karin Johansson, Janina Kurp, Serena Holm, Özay Emert and so on, it was a nice time.
Kim’s speech was also very interesting and refreshing.

Today it’s opening of Lin Cheung at gallery Hnoss and later on today I will meet my friend Josefin Skön.
It’s a lot of interesting openings all around Gothenburg today and I wish that I have the energy to see it all.
A real culture Saturday ending up with some beer at a local pub with my friend Agneta.

I have started to work with my own jewellery, preparing for my solo exhibition in Sundsvall in May this year and I have booked a flight to visit my dear friend Montserrat in Girona, Spain at Eastern.
I hope to see some more of people I know in Spain when I go there in the end of April.

The life goes on… and I cross my fingers that my internet problem will be fixed, I miss the contact and I miss to search for thing, to Google and to write e-mails to friends when I have some time left over.
